Lyle Talbot: Screen Hero and Villain

Lyle Talbot played the first live-action Commissioner Jim Gordon AND Lex Luthor. He always said he loved playing both of these characters. Talbot said that playing Lex allowed him to act really crazy and menacing.

He was a busy actor for about 60 years, on stage, screen, and television. In A-films, he often played villains or support to the male lead. In B-films, he often played the male lead.

His worry of having no income caused him to take just about any part, including two of Ed Wood‘s films. None of his lower-grade work ever seemed to affect his demand in A-listers though.

He was also quite proud of he and his family’s dedication to progressive politics and charity work.
