President Donald Trump has tried to claim that COVID-19 “snuck up” on the United States — even though there were plenty of people warning about it in real time.

What wasn’t mentioned head-on in the speech was the most relevant fact about the president and the presidency: an acknowledgement from Trump that he had recently been impeached in room where he was speaking and, for the next 19 or so hours, would remain be under impeachment in a Senate trial.
